29 December - Paris take 2 - with Marco and Chantal

28 December - SM closed all day

Space Mountain was closed today. The whole day. Because during the night there was a big technical problem, a big flood from the bathroom which affected all the electrical parts so the pompiers had to come at 3am and pump it all out and it would take all day. So basically we still had to be there, at the outside entrances and exit telling people that it's closed, answering the same questions all the time while there was a panel saying that it was closed right outside the people didn't look at it. They were all really frustrated as though it was our fault, which wasn't so nice. Also Indiana Jones was closed, so that makes the 2 best roller coaster rides gone and the queues at the other attractions were even longer because of this since we have a very big capacity of 1920 people per hour.
We had to be with at least 2 people per position at all times. It was nice that we went for lunch/dinner at 5pm all together all 11 of us because normally we have to go separately or with only a few others.

After my first break which we had to take in the Star Tours break room because ours was flooded of course, Nicole, one of our team leaders passed us and said she needed one more person for the parade, so I asked if I could do it, and she let me, so I had to go immediately to the guest flow building near Main Street for the Fantilusion Parade which started at 20.30. I arrived at 19.00 because Nicole told me to go straight away but when I got there there wasn't anybody there yet so they told me to come back in half an hour. I went to the lounge area of the Eurest Restaurant and sat there warm and watched the TV which had a sort of quiz show on.

During the parade I was in control of a part of Main street, from the Gibson Girls ice cream shop to the Motor shop. There were lots of Dutch people on my side and they all asked about my NL flag. This one woman spoke to me for about 15 minutes about Disney and Disney World in America and all the attractions and parades. I found out that in the past for the Easter Parade they actually had real ducks in it.

I had to make sure that everyone was on the pavement, not on the road, no children on the rubbish bins and behind the rope at one part of the street. It was a bit difficult because the little children just walked out onto the street all the time or went to sit down at the sides which is also not allowed because it's dangerous with the      chariots because the person who drives them from the inside can't really see where he is going. He is directed through a walky talky by some one who walks in front of it with a big red light. So the driver might make a mistake and go to the side of the road and take off the person's foot who is sitting there so it's very important to control everyone, specially energetic little kids because there isn't a barrier so they can just run out into the street.
The parade lasted about half an hour and afterwards I went back to SM to find that it was working again! I was placed at the Grouper position and this was quite hectic because it was just open for 5 minutes and everything was going fast, people were pushing to get in. I was really happy when I saw the last few people arrive which meant we closed the doors (at 10pm) and were almost finished.

Hey Landgenoot!

Started late today which means to also finish late. We were the "closes" so have to close the attraction and clear the guests from Discoveryland. Just got back in room at 1 am after I went with Maria and her friends from Italy to eat something at Macdo at Disney Village. Because we strangely had "lunch" at 4pm and then nothing until 22.45 when we finished, so were quite hungry.
No surprise, there were again lots of Dutch people today. Met a family from Alkmaar, recognised them from the AZ hat and scarf. Quite funny because they live near the Mare. They came back about 5 times after each other and when they saw me they were shouting and saying Alkmaar, Hup AZ, landgenoot. It was quite funny.

I was at Greeter 2 (at the outside entrance) when we closed the ride and Maria was at Greeter 1 (inside entrance). It was our first time closing for both of us and we weren't too sure what we had to do. As Greeter 2, I wasn't allowed to leave my position so I just stayed there and told everyone that it was closed and put the cord up so that no one could enter any more. And Maria had to check the rubbish bins and clean the queueing area. I was still waiting when I saw everyone else from the other attractions move in groups to the exit and seemed to leave. Luckily though other Space members came and I went with them. I was worried though that Maria was still there at the Greeter 1 waiting because we just left and there were still a few people missing. Also Valerie and Djenemba. But luckily they all came in the end just as we left, so they didn't have to spend the night inside the Russian mountain.

A few things happened today. I had to call the security because Valerie got "attacked" verbally by a guest and then other guests got involved and it was a bit of a problem, which I think did get solved in the end. Also a cast got hit by a guest with a water bottle because they said he was being rude. Also today I found out that French sign language is very different than British sign language with 4 deaf guests who entered through the handicapped queue and wanted to do the ride a few times after each other, which was a bit complicated but okay it worked. It was all right, they understood me but I couldn't understand what they were saying among themselves though.

The atmosphere between the casts is nice. Everyone is friendly and funny and there is a lot of variety of cultures. For example there are a few Italians, such as Maria who is from Bari (near Taranto like Elena), Spanish (such as Marcella and Bea), half Spanish half Chile (John), Mexican, one English girl (Iona), Cote D'Ivoire, Mali, Brazil, Marocco, China and others I'm sure and of course most are French.

Sleepies time now! Till tomorrow!

My second pin trade. Traded my Minnie for this Tinkerbell pin.

"Beverley, you need to evacuate the train right now!"

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Exciting morning today. Had to evacuate a train which we stopped in the catapult by an "empeche de launch" because of a panicked boy who didn't want to continue and was crying and very upset. I was the "Exit" at the Gare Principal so me and the Load (John) had to go and evacuate everyone from the train immediately. I was going to evacuate the people so I was the one who had to wear the harness because it's steep in the canon and I actually had to climb onto the carriages and in between on the tracks to open up the harnesses and help get all the 21 people out safe. Of course we had to reassure everyone that it's all going to be okay and explain what we were going to do. There were lots of Italians on board who didn't understand so I had to explain in Italian to them which worked so all good.
Everything was stopped because of this for about an hour and of course the other guests weren't too happy.
It was a bit hard but really fun to do though, my first evacuation. I must've looked cool with the big harness being like spider man climbing around. Pity I couldn't make a picture, hehe.
I did try and this is the result:

We got everyone out safely, back to the "tour" to pick up our ID's and then all the validations of the whole mountain had to be done again just as in the opening in the morning, so it did take some time before we actually got people riding the trains again.
